AMI forms Joint Venture with Showa Denko

AMI Group, headquartered in Monterrey, Mexico, has sold 50% of AMI Automation, an industrial automation company, to Showa Denko (SDK), effective on February 5th, 2021.

AMI Group, headquartered in Monterrey, Mexico, has sold 50% of AMI Automation,
an industrial automation company, to Showa Denko (SDK), effective February 5th, 2021.

Showa Denko Carbon Division (SDK) is the world’s largest supplier of ultra-high-powered
EAF graphite electrodes, with over 100 years of experience and multiple production
facilities worldwide. SDK is part of Showa Denko Group, with around 33,800 employees and
multiple business units including petrochemicals, chemicals, electronics, inorganics,
and aluminum.

AMI Automation is a premier international automation and control solutions company
providing innovative products and solutions to improve industrial processes. AMI’s
Meltshop Solutions division has more than 30 years dedicated to EAF optimization.
By applying AMI automation technologies to SDK’s business and production processes,
this joint venture will expand capabilities and global presence for both companies.

SDK has continuously improved EAF steelmaking quality and efficiency through high-performance
graphite electrodes. In partnership with AMI’s optimization expertise, it will now be
possible to further improve electrode performance and provide solution-based services
that optimize energy use, reduce emissions, and enhance EAF efficiency. Additionally,
AMI Industrial Systems solutions will help increase efficiency in graphite electrode
production.
