Oregon, United States. On May 22, 2021, Cascade Steel Rolling Mills (CSRM) in McMinnville, Oregon, experienced a fire that affected the melt shop, resulting in equipment damage and property loss. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.
CSRM contacted AMI to support the repair and replacement project for the melt shop. AMI immediately assigned resources onsite to assess the damage and develop a strategy to bring the Five Strands Caster back online in the shortest possible time.
To accelerate results, AMI deployed two coordinated teams — one onsite at CSRM and another based at AMI headquarters in Monterrey, Mexico — working in parallel to manage logistics and engineering tasks.
Through expert collaboration, communication, and strong project management, AMI and CSRM overcame every challenge during the recovery effort. New equipment was installed and commissioned successfully, enabling a fast and safe restart.
The caster resumed operations with a full workforce in only 11 weeks — an achievement made possible thanks to the resilience, teamwork and shared commitment of both organizations.
